The CD Sales Face-Off/ Kanye vs. 50
Just had to put in a quick word on the Kanye vs. 50 Cent CD Sales face-off that the two artists are currently waging against one another. We’re getting several calls from reporters asking us who we think will win this contest…and we just wanted to put it out there that we at Virgin love both of them. Other than dropping their albums on the same day we’re not even sure what the competition is all about. They offer music fans two completely different sounds – and personally I think both albums are solid for very different reasons.
Supposedly 50 Cent was claiming retirement from the industry if he was out-sold…however we’re all happy to hear he has changed his mind. We wish both of them much success with these new albums…but from what our sources are telling us Kenny Chesney may end up blowing both of them out of the race!
Not playing favorites, but we are excited to have Kanye dropping by our Hollywood and Highland store Thursday, September 13, from 9 PM – midnight to sign copies of his CD.
Kanye also made the day for one of our V.I.P. Loyalty members who won a special one-on-one meet and greet with Kayne at our Union Square store on Tuesday night. Movie sets, Will Smith and Kanye….we’re having fun on our block!
It’s a busy week on Hollywood Blvd. Having one of our stores in the heart of Hollywood, right there at Hollywood and Highland, often feels like we’re in the middle of a movie set…and this week, we are. Will Smith and Charlize Theron have been battling it out in their new Sci-Fi flick, “Hancock” which is being filmed this week right in front of our Megastore. It’s been a lot of fun to watch all the action and to see how many people it takes to film just a few minutes of a movie. I had no idea. They’ve closed down Hollywood Blvd in the evenings to get their shots – but it’s cool because all the stores are still open and the “extra’s” are just everyday people and tourists who are out and about checking out Grauman’s Chinese Theatre or browsing the shopping center that our store is a part of.
To add to the excitement we have Kanye in the store on Thursday, September 13 from
9 PM – midnight signing autographs of his new album. We hear Will Smith’s a fan…so maybe they can do a little impromptu performance? So if you’re heading down to meet Kanye or you’re going to check out the famous hand and footprints at Grauman’s make sure you look your best because you just might score a spot in Will’s big movie!
